Lead Custodian
Mt. Blue Middle School
Full- time, year round position; includes storm days, summer breaks & scrub weeks
Job Goal(s)
The goal of a Lead Custodian is to supervise and participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the assigned schools. The position will serve as a liaison between the custodial department and school administration to ensure a safe, clean learning environment for students and staff.
Qualifications
- Self-directed; Motivated; Detail Oriented
- Ability to establish a team environment with other custodial employees
- Ability to delegate and communicate effectively
- Good organizational skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Ability to read and comprehend technical information
- Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment
- Physical ability to lift 40 lbs, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, bend, and pull for extended periods
Certifications
- Holds or can obtain a valid Maine DOE Background Check - CHRC
- Hold a valid Maine Driver’s License
Education
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
Experience
- 2-3 years experience in custodial and/or supervisory related field
Performance Responsibilities
- Provide direction and supervision to custodial staff
- Procure and maintain custodial supplies
- Maintain communication with custodial staff and school administration
- Be a positive role model and foster a productive custodial team
- Follow district policies and contractual obligations professionally
- Use district email, Google applications, Schooldude effectively
- Wear proper uniform attire and maintain its condition
- Oversee daily operations of assigned schools
- Identify and predict budget needs
- Serve as a resource for fire, safety, and OSHA policies
- Act as liaison with security communication companies; be on-call for security issues
- Participate in building inspections and safety drills
- Maintain SDS Manual and safety inspection records
- Perform minor maintenance and preventive maintenance on equipment
- Replace ceiling tiles, lights, batteries as needed
- Report maintenance issues via Maintenance Direct
- Monitor safety and quality checks of custodial staff
- Participate in staff evaluations and training
- Maintain confidentiality and adapt quickly to situations
- Demonstrate knowledge of custodial equipment and methods
- Discuss problem resolutions professionally
- Collaborate closely with Operations Supervisor
- Complete OSHA 10 Class; maintain tools and machinery
- Complete professional development courses as instructed
- Pass physical exams and become CPR certified
- Report risks promptly; develop SOPs; wear PPE; follow time clock procedures
- Perform additional duties as directed
Working Schedule
- 40 hours/week; some hours may exceed scheduled time; primarily day shifts with possible shift changes
Travel Requirements
- Travel between schools or district buildings may be required
Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.
Evaluation: Annually by Operations Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
