Job summary

Utah Valley University in Orem is seeking a Lead Custodian to provide hands-on leadership by supervising full-time, part-time and temporary custodial staff and by supporting quality floor care, cleaning, furniture setup and safe work practices campus-wide.

Under Custodial Services, the role offers regular rotations between work areas, allowing interaction with diverse campus spaces while maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and one year of full-time custodial experience, including some supervision.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and trains full-time, part-time and temporary custodial personnel in all custodial operations.
• Trains and monitors safety in working with hazardous chemicals, cleanup of body fluids, ladders, lifts and other equipment.
• Adheres to department cleaning, lock-up/unlocking, and furniture set-up in order to provide proper facilities cleanliness.
• Maintains inventory and issues supplies to custodians.
• Helps the campus and facilities maintain a safe, clean, comfortable environment conducive to learning.
• Performs and ensures the daily maintenance and cleanliness of custodial equipment.
• Reports building and equipment repair issues to Custodial Supervisor.
• Assumes duties of Custodians, other Leads and some duties of the Custodial Supervisors in their absence.
• Builds team cohesion and unity while addressing potential discord between team members.

Schedule

Monday-Thursday, 4:15 p.m.-1:15 a.m.;Friday, 8:00 p.m.-midnight.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent ANDone year of full‑time custodial experience, including somesupervision. Part‑time experience will be prorated.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

• Knowledge of training in the proper use of hazardous chemicalsand products.
• Knowledge of cleanup and proper protection from bodyfluids.
• Knowledge of pest control.
• Knowledge of all floor types, such as cement, wood, vinyl, andceramic tile, as well as carpet fibers, weaves, andbackings.
• Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, common cleaning chemicals,buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.
• Knowledge of general maintenance operations.

Skills

• Good interpersonal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Computer use such as Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS software(desktop and apps).
