Job summary

Responsibilities

• Direct and monitor the work of custodians at assigned campus.
• Help screen, select, and train custodians.
• Direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events.
• Implement and maintain cleaning schedules for floors, boards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
• Keep building and grounds neat and clean including sidewalks and parking areas.
• Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
• Assist with lunchroom setup and arranging tables and chairs.
• Regulate heat, ventilation and AC to provide comfortable temperatures and energy efficiency.
• Report building repair needs to principal or custodial supervisor.
• Move furniture or equipment within building as directed.
• Open/close building each school day.
• Oversee locking and safeguarding facilities; check exits and panic bolts.
• Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Operate tools following safety procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions and follow up with supervisor.
• Report to work on time per schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Primary Purpose: Lead the assigned campus custodial operations. Establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
• Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
• Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance

Essential Job Functions:

• Direct and monitor the work of custodians at assigned campus.

• Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
• Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
• Report building repair needs to principal or custodial supervisor.
• Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
• Assume responsibility for opening and closing building each school day.
• Oversee procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
• Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
