Job summary

Kootenai County is seeking a Lead Custodian in Coeur d'Alene, ID to guide a custodial team and keep county facilities clean, safe, and welcoming. This hands-on leadership role coordinates day-to-day tasks, assigns duties, and supports hiring and training while ensuring high standards of cleanliness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 6 months custodial or related experience; lead experience a plus.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment, tools, and chemicals.
• Ability to lead a team when needed.
• Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain County buildings in a clean, orderly, and professional condition.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, and buff floors.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, windows, and common areas.
• Handle heavy-duty cleaning like carpet shampooing and wall washing.
• Safely mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.
• Perform light maintenance such as changing light bulbs.
• Assign tasks and provide day-to-day directions to staff.
• Assist with hiring and training new team members.
• Inspect work to ensure quality standards are met.
• Help schedule shifts and maintain team coverage.
• Order, track, and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Coordinate special projects like deep cleans and seasonal tasks.
• Communicate regularly with team members and management.
• Work a swing shift that overlaps with both day and night crews.
