Job description

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Imaging Coordinator and Imaging Manager, the Lead CT Technologist provides leadership for the daily operations of the CT department while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for coordinating daily workflow, supporting staff, troubleshooting operational issues, and communicating recommendations and department needs to leadership. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Lead CT Technologist performs quality CT and radiographic examinations as ordered by InterMed and external providers, utilizing proper imaging techniques, maintaining patient safety, and demonstrating the professional, patient-centered service that reflects InterMed's values.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a resource to other technologists when troubleshooting equipment issues and protocol questions.
  • Serves as the Designated Technologist for ACR Accreditation communications and actively works with modality staff to obtain the necessary Imaging for ACR submission.
  • Application Super-User (PACS, RIS, eCW, modality equipment)
  • Has detailed knowledge of PACS, RIS and eCW allowing for troubleshooting of common issues. Escalates to PACS Admin/IT/Service, as necessary.
  • Active involvement in modality QA/QC including protocol management, preparation and distribution of monthly QA, and periodic case reviews with technologists.
  • Actively involved in onboarding of new staff and participates in 30, 60, 90-day case reviews with new hire and Coordinator.
  • Communicates workflow issues to Coordinator/Manager and serves as a resource for workflow changes, assisting in rolling out changes within the modality.Involved with and contributes to planning of modality staff meetings.
  • High level communication between modality leads, specifically in areas of concern that could affect other modalities.
  • Serves as a resource for planning schedule templates and staffing models.
  • Assists in coordinating time for equipment service.
  • Helps to create/update EMR templates based on operational needs and staffing models.
  • Reviews EMR blocks and communicates necessary changes, adding/removing blocks as necessary.
  • Serves as a resource for and contributes to modality specific policy and procedure review with Coordinator.
  • Monitors supply Inventory/Ordering within the modality.
  • Monitors modality First Responder/Drug box if applicable.
  • Monitors all safety items and logs in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Enters facilities tickets as needed for issues arising within the modality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
CT Technologist Responsibilities:
  • Produce CT Images and/or Radiology Images of consistent high quality by using proper techniques in the following areas:
  • Proper adjustment of equipment
  • Appropriate positioning of patient
  • Proper determination of kVp and mAs
  • Arranging, attaching or adjusting immobilization and supportive devices such as sandbags to obtain precise position, minimizing patient discomfort while preventing motion
  • Adjustment of protective lead shields
  • Utilization of primary beam collimation for every exam
  • Application of appropriate CT protocol with regard to dose reduction
  • Adherence to Radiation Protection Guidelines - ALARA principles
  • Gather all information necessary for successful study i.e. additional patient history
  • Obtain additional images in questionable cases to anticipate radiologist’s request
  • Maintain imaging/scan room and work area in clean organized fashion
  • Report problems with equipment and assist in resolution
  • Observe universal precautions and other necessary safety procedures such as asking women of childbearing age about possible pregnancies
  • Radiology: Track all repeat & rejects for quarterly analysis
  • Radiology: Display necessary technique charts
  • Maintain all supplies and place orders as necessary
  • Maintain certification with American Registry of Radiologic technologists
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines and InterMed policies.
  • Perform other duties to support the mission, vision and values of InterMed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • Successful completion of AMA accredited radiology program required
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years' experience as a registered CT Technologist
  • License/Certifications:
    • State of Maine license required
    • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and advanced level certification (or eligible) in CT
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of patients
  • Maintains close attention to detail
  • Ability to use independent judgement
