Job summary

Jobtailor in Charlotte, NC seeks a hands-on enterprise architect and principal software engineer to lead cryptographic and platform‑security initiatives. You will design end‑to‑end solutions, produce working reference implementations, and translate strategic goals into concrete technical plans while writing code.

This role requires 10+ years of experience, deep knowledge across languages, SDLC, security, and experience with Vault/HSM and cloud‑native architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of professional software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of multiple programming languages, software architecture, and design principles.
• Deep understanding of SDLC, testing, deployment, and security practices.
• Demonstrated hands-on coding across projects.
• Enterprise-architecture experience defining and implementing architecture.
• Applied cryptography/secrets-management experience incl. PKI, HSMs, Vault.
• Cloud-native architectures, microservices, container orchestration, DevOps/CI-CD.
• Hands-on cryptography at scale, including key management, certificate automation.
• Familiarity with SOX, GLBA, PCI in financial services.
• English fluency.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a hands-on enterprise architect and principal software engineer for cryptographic and platform-security initiatives.
• Architect and build end-to-end software and platform solutions with reference implementations.
• Translate strategic goals into concrete technical plans and validate by coding prototypes.
• Design, implement, and integrate cryptographic and secrets-management capabilities into production systems.
• Establish software engineering and secure-by-design standards, guardrails, and governance patterns.
• Resolve cross-system problems through reusable architectures and measurable performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.
• Apply expertise across distributed systems, APIs, data, infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and applied cryptography.
• Partner with senior technology leadership, product, architecture, and risk teams on domain strategy and roadmaps.
• Provide cross-team technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring through code reviews, design sessions, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, cryptographic techniques, and relevant research through measurable prototypes.
• Lead strategically important initiatives as an individual contributor, coordinating technical work across multiple teams with substantial autonomy.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software development
• Deep knowledge of multiple programming languages, software architecture, and design principles
• Deep understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, deployment, and security practices
• Demonstrable, ongoing record of hands-on coding
• Demonstrated enterprise-architecture experience where the candidate both defined and implemented the architecture
• Applied experience with cryptography and/or secrets management, including encryption services, key/certificate lifecycle, PKI, HSMs, or platforms such as HashiCorp Vault
• Deep expertise in cloud-native architectures, microservices, container orchestration, and DevOps/CI-CD
• Hands-on experience with applied cryptography at scale, including key management systems, HSM integration, certificate automation, or non-human/machine-identity secrets
• Familiarity with regulatory and control frameworks relevant to financial services, such as SOX, GLBA, and PCI
• English language fluency required
