Qualifications

• Minimum age 20; possession of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university; or a high school diploma or GED and completion of a Department-approved training course.
• Twenty-four months of experience in correctional or security work for a governmental or private corrections agency.
• Successful completion of GED tests per Oklahoma standards.
• Ability to evaluate situations, communicate effectively and maintain discipline among inmates.

Responsibilities

• Provides security and supervision to inmates; maintains security of assigned area or post.
• Supervises inmate work crews; escorts inmates to work sites; inventories and controls equipment, weapons, tools and keys.
• Patrols yards, cells, corridors and work areas; observes inmate activity; manages conduct and discipline.
• Maintains order during meals and recreation; inspects living areas for contraband; files incident reports.
• Operates security equipment; conducts inmate counts and searches; enforces rules and regulations.
• Prepares written documentation and reports on inmate behavior and movement; participates on response teams for escapes or riots.
