Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking an RN II to provide nursing care in a correctional setting, directing team members and collaborating with a multidisciplinary staff. The role emphasizes patient-centered care and adherence to security protocols within the facility.

Minimum one year of RN experience is required; BSN preferred. Licensure in SC or a compact state and BLS certification are required, with opportunities for professional development and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing preferred; RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma must enroll in BSN within two years and complete it within four.
• Minimum one year of RN experience required.
• Licensure as an RN by SC Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Conducts assessments, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, and provides health teaching.
• Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in governance and development.
• Correctional-specific responsibilities include delivering care following security protocols.
• Responds promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter.
• Coordinates with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintains security awareness.
• Maintains control of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.
• Documents care per correctional medical records requirements and chain-of-custody considerations.
