Job summary

Bureau of Prisons seeks qualified corrections education professionals to uphold humane, secure environments and prepare individuals for successful community reentry. Basic requirements include a qualifying bachelor's degree with specified education coursework or an approved combination of education and teaching experience, or valid teaching certification/licensure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that included or was supplemented by supervised student teaching and at least one course in general psychology, human development, history and/or philosophy of education, and teaching methods at the learning level of the position.
  • OR a combination of education and experience: a full 4-year bachelor’s degree with at least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level; accreditation verification is recommended.
  • OR Teacher certification or licensure in a State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • If applying based on certification, you MUST submit proof of certification or license uploaded and linked from USAJOBS at the time you apply.
  • AND In addition to the above, Education: no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level.
  • Experience: at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, typically in or related to the position.
