Job summary

TerraPower is seeking a Principal Core Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical test programs for reactor core components in Bellevue, WA. You will design, execute, and optimize advanced testing campaigns, leveraging ANSYS, SolidWorks, and LabVIEW to ensure performance, reliability, and safety of core mechanical systems.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Hands-on mechanical testing or system development experience.
• Experience with nuclear industry or regulated environments (e.g., 10 CFR 50, ASME NQA-1).
• Strong background in mechanical system behavior under force, displacement, and vibration.
• Ability to lead complex projects and coordinate with vendors and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, execution, and documentation of mechanical test plans and validation strategies for reactor core systems.
• Apply quantitative and engineering analysis to evaluate test outcomes and drive data-based conclusions.
• Develop and oversee complex mechanical testing campaigns from concept to final reporting.
• Translate requirements into detailed test specifications and instrumentation plans.
• Coordinate cross-functional activities including fixtures, control systems, and lab planning.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices in testing and analysis.
