UVA Dine is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lead Cook to join our culinary team in the Gaston Food Hub located at 551 Brandon Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The Lead Cook will play a key role in the daily operations of our kitchen, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, preparation, and presentation. This position involves leading and training kitchen staff, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and contributing to menu development and innovation.

  • Location: The University of Virginia - Gaston Food Hub - 551 Brandon Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903
  • Start Date: August 13, 2025
  • Pay Rate: $18+
  • Schedule: Fexibility desired

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a variety of food items, adhering to recipes and quality standards.
  • Lead, train, and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist in menu planning and development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and creative culinary techniques.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders for food and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment, complying with all health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any kitchen-related issues that may arise.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth and efficient service

Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Cook, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary degree or certification is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a hot and fast-paced environment.
