Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Morenci operations is seeking a Lead Cook to oversee food production, plan recipes, and manage kitchen operations on-site. You will ensure sanitation, train staff, supervise catering and deliveries, and enforce purchasing specs and waste controls to maintain quality and cost.

Qualifications include a post-secondary culinary arts program or at least two years of experience, ability to obtain Arizona Food Handler’s Card within 1 month, and a high school diploma or GED preferred.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

As the Lead Cook, you will be responsible for overseeing food production and assuming the duties of absent Motel Management. You will plan recipes and menus to maintain company standards for food quality, presentation, and cost management. This role includes managing kitchen operations, ensuring sanitation and cleanliness, and training staff in cooking methods and food preparation. Assist in monitoring and coaching kitchen staff, scheduling for caterings and deliveries, and enforcing purchasing specifications and waste control procedures. Train staff on food production principles and ensure adherence to standardized recipes. Evaluate current practices and initiate improvements to enhance product and service quality. You may also be required to fill in as needed to maintain guest service standards and efficient operations.

What You Bring To Freeport
  • Completion of a post-secondary culinary arts training program OR at least two (2) years of experience in food preparation
  • Ability to obtain an Arizona Food Handler’s Card within 1 month of employment
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$24.00 - $32.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
