Job summary

PMDautomation in New York seeks a Lead Controls Hardware Design Engineer to provide controls hardware design for turnkey custom automation equipment. You will lead the design for complex projects, translate mechanical lists into electrical schematics, and guide a team of engineers through development and deployment.

The role requires extensive experience in controls hardware, safety standards, and Autodesk Electrical drafting, with the ability to train staff and manage multiple project streams.

Qualifications

• BS in EE, EET, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in control hardware design.
• Proficient with AutoCad Electrical.
• Familiar with NFP79, UL508a, CE, CSA standards.
• Power calculations (AC/DC) and enclosure heat calculations.
• SCCR calculations and safety considerations.
• Technical supervision experience (5+ years).

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware design for turnkey custom automation projects.
• Train and supervise junior engineers on controls hardware tasks.
• Set technical direction for multi-engineer efforts.
• Peer review colleagues' work for accuracy and completeness.
• Develop overall machine controls architecture and enclosures.
• Translate mechanical device lists into electrical designs and diagrams.
• Draft schematics using AutoCad Electrical and develop new symbols.
