Job summary

TGG Accounting is assisting a heavy civil construction client in Rome, NY, to locate a hands-on Controller who will own the accounting function, lead a four-person team, and partner closely with the president on financial oversight.

Responsibilities include WIP management, full-cycle accounting, and plain-language reporting to non-finance staff, with an onsite schedule 8:00 AM–4:30 PM and a hybrid option after 6+ months.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting experience, including prior Controller roles.
• Construction accounting experience, with WIP expertise required.
• Management and higher-level skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team.
• A degree in accounting or finance preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience with Vista (Viewpoint) is ideal or be able to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the WIP schedule and report on job profitability.
• Own accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, general ledger, and month-end close.
• Explain financial results to project and operations staff without an accounting background.
• Oversee, coach, and mentor a staff of four.
• Work with the president on financial oversight and decision-making.
