Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc., (F&R) is seeking a highly motivated CMT Department Manager for our Chesapeake, Virginia office. You will coordinate engineers, technicians and inspectors to deliver results that exceed client expectations on every project.

Responsibilities include leading project schedules and budgets, overseeing construction materials testing and lab management, and mentoring staff. The role also involves developing proposals, maintaining profitability, and driving client

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering or related fields.
• PE license required, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• 5+ years of construction materials testing and inspections desired.
• Progressive experience leading teams to meet organizational/departmental goals.
• Experience with developing clients in multiple markets.
• Must be a team leader who can lead growth and success through values.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals.
• Excellent attention to details.
• Must be willing to participate in and pass pre-employment screening including background investigation, drug screening and driving record screening
• Ability to continuously sit, stand, and walk.
• Ability to occasionally lift less than 20 lbs.
• Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures.
• Ability to occasionally bend, squat, climb, push, and pull.
• Ability to work in environments containing dust, fumes, and radiation.
• Must have valid driver's license with good-standing driving record.
• Ability to occasionally travel overnight.

• Leads team of engineers, project managers and technicians to provide client service on multiple deadlines.
• Develops and manages technician and project schedules and budgets.
• Oversees construction materials testing and lab management projects.
• Maintains project profitability and client satisfaction per company goals.
• Authors and reviews technical reports and letters.
• Applies standard engineering methods and criteria during projects.
• Leads development of proposals to win profitable projects in the region.
• Mentors/j manages junior and senior staff and supervises PMs and technicians.
• Supports business development, marketing and proposal goals.
• May lead higher-profile projects and oversee junior staff.
• Participates in hiring of new engineers and inspectors.
• Manages lab accreditations and staff certifications.
• Performs staff evaluations and helps set goals.
