Job summary

UC Santa Cruz is seeking a Principal Construction Inspector to serve as the lead field project manager on the campus's largest construction projects. You will supervise inspectors, mentor staff, and act as a deputy Campus Inspector, ensuring code compliance and quality control on site.

This role requires an ICC/DSA background, a bachelor’s degree, six years in construction with three in inspection, and the ability to coordinate with project managers, contractors, and campus stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• Six years of building or utility construction work with 3 years as inspector/superintendent.
• ICC/DSA certifications and knowledge of building codes.
• Ability to read plans, shop drawings, and specifications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; valid CA driver license.

Responsibilities

• Leads team of inspectors, providing leadership and direction.
• Represents the Campus Inspector in meetings and with stakeholders.
• Coordinates with Campus Inspector to align unit objectives with goals.
• Oversees construction inspection for code compliance and quality control.
• Documents progress, change orders, and occupancy-related paperwork.
• Coordinates with project managers, contractors, and campus staff.
• Performs plan checks and ensures ADA and safety compliance.
