Job summary

ST Engineering MRAS in Baltimore seeks a Senior Manufacturing / Process Engineer to drive development of advanced carbon fiber structures and enhance existing bond processes. You will own manufacturing processes, interact with executive leadership, and guide production operators on the floor.

The role focuses on process specifications, cost modeling, tooling concepts, and implementation of automation opportunities while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years in manufacturing or related engineering for composite structures.
  • Proficiency in CATIA 3D modeling software.
  • This position involves access to export-controlled technology requiring U.S. Person status or authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, processes, and procedures for carbon fiber reinforced composite structures.
  • Develop and maintain bonding work instructions, repair plans, and vendor fabrication instructions.
  • Lead process improvements to reduce labor hours and increase productivity.
  • Support introduction of new products including manufacturability evaluations, cost estimates, and tooling concepts.
  • Provide production troubleshooting guidance to hourly and salary personnel.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to troubleshoot quality and delivery issues.
  • Support FAA, NADCAP, AS9100 audits and customer audits.

Lead Composites Manufacturing Process Engineer

Manufacturing / Process Engineers serve as the critical link between design engineering and production operations. As a Senior Manufacturing / Process Engineer, you will focus on developing new composite structures and enhancing existing structures manufactured in the composite bonding area. This role requires ownership of assigned manufacturing processes and components, with responsibilities spanning from technical development to communication with both executive leadership and certified operators on the production floor.

What YOU will do
  • Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, processes, and procedures that support the manufacturing of carbon fiber reinforced composite structures, including:
    - Process Specifications
    - Material Specifications
    - Tooling Design, Manufacturing, and Geometry Buy-Off via modeling software
  • Support the development of detailed cost models and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Assist in capital purchases by preparing comprehensive Statements of Work.
  • Review, interpret, and approve engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain bonding work instructions, repair plans, and vendor fabrication instructions.
  • Design and implement new and revised bonding and inspection tooling.
  • Develop and implement effective repair plans to restore product compliance.
  • Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing, including:
    - Evaluating manufacturability of design concepts
    - Providing cost estimates and ROI for automation opportunities
    - Developing tooling concepts and production methodologies for automation cells
    - Participating in business reviews and providing technical manufacturing insight
    - Assisting with material, tooling, and process selection for Engineering Development Programs
  • Provide production troubleshooting support and daily direction to both hourly and salary manufacturing personnel.
  • Lead process improvement, driving labor hour and cycle reduction initiatives and enhanced productivity.
  • Lead activities related to factory layout and capacity planning.
  • Support FAA, NADCAP, AS9100, and Customer audit activity
  • Collaborate with suppliers to troubleshoot issues related to quality and delivery
  • Production, Facilities, and Manufacturing Planning

What YOU must bring to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing or a related engineering field in the design, construction, and manufacturing of composite structures.
  • Proficiency in CATIA 3D modeling software
  • This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. A 'U.S. Person,' as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62, includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States. To be considered for this position, you must either be a U.S. Person or fall within a legally recognized export control exception or authorization. Estimate salary range for this role: $120,000 to $152,000 per year.ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
