Job summary

Heritage Valley seeks a Lead of Coding to provide strategic and operational leadership for the hospital's coding program. You will ensure accuracy, compliance, and optimal reimbursement while guiding documentation improvement initiatives across teams of physicians and health information staff.

The role requires an Associate degree in Health Information Management, coding certifications (CCA/CCS/RHIT/CCDS), 5+ years coding experience, and strong analytical and communicative skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, or related field.
• Certifications: CCA, CCS, RHIT, or CCDS.
• Minimum 5 years of coding or health information management experience.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, MS-DRG/APR-DRG, APC, and coding compliance standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to influence priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.
• Effective communication with physicians, clinical staff, and coding teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the hospital coding program and ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Improve documentation quality and coding operations; drive reimbursement optimization.

Work Hours:Full Time. Monday – Friday, primarily daylight. Occasional off hours support as needed.

Basic Function:
The Lead of Coding assists with providing strategic and operational leadership for the Health System’s coding program. This role assists in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of clinical data, optimizes reimbursement, and drives initiatives to enhance documentation and coding operations. The lead helps develop and implement departmental strategies, oversee workflow and resource allocation, and drive process improvements. Collaborates with physicians, clinical staff, coding professionals, and health information teams to improve documentation quality, maintain regulatory compliance and support performance improvement initiatives and quality improvement goals

Qualifications:

Required:

• Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, or related field. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in coding or health information management.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, MS-DRG/APR-DRG, APC, and coding compliance standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to influence organizational priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and electronic medical records.
• Effective communication skills with physicians, clinical staff, and coding teams.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree (MHI, MHA, or similar).
