Job summary

A World Fit For Kids is seeking an Afterschool Lead Coach in Huntington Park, CA to help run a safe, organized, and engaging afterschool program.

You will assist the Site Coordinator, train Coaches, plan activities, manage attendance, and organize events and field trips, while maintaining a 20:1 participant-to-coach ratio and providing a supportive learning environment.

This part-time, non-exempt role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and dedication to youth development.

Qualifications

• Graduate or majored in education, child development, physical education, recreation or related field.
• Experience working with children/youth ages 5–17 is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience implementing expanded learning/out of school time educational enrichment activities is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Step in for Site Coordinator when they are off site or absent.
• Assist in the collection and documentation of attendance.
• Assist Site Coordinator with community and school meetings, such as parent meetings/workshops and program events.
• Devise and execute engaging and educational activities for participants.
• Create and implement program activities aligned with goals and monthly themes.
• Uphold a student-to-coach ratio of 20:1 and attract/retain participants.
• Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students.
• Build positive relationships with youth, families, and school staff.
• Maintain and submit daily attendance records and documentation.
• Develop and present comprehensive lesson plans in advance.
• Organize end-of-semester performances or displays.
• Participate in staff development sessions.

Job Summary:

The Afterschool Lead Coach supports the Site Coordinator in running a safe, well-organized, and engaging afterschool program. Responsibilities include managing site paperwork and data, supporting and helping train Coaches, and planning and carrying out special events and field trips. When the Site Coordinator is unavailable, the Lead Coach steps in to oversee daily site operations.

This role strengthens daily program flow, keeps documentation accurate, and raises concerns through the right channels, helping ensure the program reflects WFIT's mission of preparing young people for fit and fulfilling lives through Moving, Modeling, and Mentoring.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Guarantee a safe and supportive environment, promoting the physical and emotional well-being of all students.
• Cultivate positive relationships with program youth, parents, and school personnel to strengthen the overall program impact.
• Maintain and submit daily student attendance records, ensuring accurate program documentation.
• Develop and present comprehensive lesson plans for program activities in advance, supporting a structured learning experience.
• Organize "end of semester" performances or displays that contribute to the social and emotional growth of our students, showcasing their achievements.
• Actively engage in staff development training sessions
• Undertake any additional responsibilities as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program.

Education and Experience:

Physical and Availability Requirements:

• Regular physical activity participation is required
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Afterschool Hours: Monday-Friday: approximately 4.25 hours a day: ranging from 1-6pm- 5 days a week and some Saturdays
