Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer to act as the site's technical authority for advanced industrial control systems and multi-axis CNC machinery at our Middle River facility. You will own the site controls architecture, guide automation integrators during capital purchases, and troubleshoot production lines under rate and downtime pressure.

The role requires hands-on experience with Siemens Sinumerik or FANUC platforms, PLC-CNC integration, and establishing plant-wide

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related technical field; plus minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial controls experience.
Experience with multi-axis interpolated trajectory motion (5-axis CNCs, large gantries) and with PLC-CNC interfacing.
Experience defining FAT/SAT acceptance criteria and managing vendor punch lists for automated equipment.

Responsibilities

Write and optimize PLC state logic that handshakes with CNC controllers (AUTO/MDI/JOG), M/S/T code decoding, feed hold interlocks, and axis enable/inhibit logic.
Develop, debug, and support control code in Siemens TIA Portal / Sinumerik (840D sl / ONE) or FANUC PMC Ladder III.
Establish plant-wide standards for controls architecture, safety philosophies (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061), tagging/naming conventions, and version control.
Lead machine acquisitions; author SOWs and URS, review vendor schematics/logic, and run FAT/SAT.
Serve as the final escalation point for downtime incidents, tracing faults across electrical, controls, and mechanical domains.
Integrate multi-axis robotic cells (FANUC, ABB, KUKA) with CNCs, robot-to-CNC handshakes, and OT networks (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, OPC-UA).
