Job description

Lead Clinician – School-Based Mental Health

Full-Time | Monday–Friday |

Help Build Something That Can Change the Way Students Experience Mental Health Support in School.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to serve as the Lead Clinician for an exciting new school-based mental health initiative serving students, families, and school communities across Warren, Hunterdon, and Somerset Counties.

It's an opportunity to help launch one.

As Lead Clinician, you will be one of the key clinical faces of this new initiative—helping introduce the program to schools, build trusted relationships within the community, and create meaningful connections between students, families, educators, and behavioral health resources.

For a clinician who has spent years working with children and adolescents and has thought, “There has to be a better way to reach students before they fall through the cracks,” this is an opportunity to help build that bridge.

What You'll Do

You'll combine clinical leadership, direct student support, community engagement, and program implementation to help establish the initiative across the region.

In this highly visible role, you will:

  • Serve as a clinical leader and ambassador for a newly launched school-based mental health initiative.
  • Build collaborative relationships with school administrators, educators, school support personnel, community partners, and county and state stakeholders as the program becomes integrated throughout the communities it serves.
  • Help schools understand how to access and effectively utilize the program so students can receive support when they need it.
  • Provide clinical services to students both in person and through telehealth, including screenings, brief interventions, consultations, and connections to appropriate treatment.
  • Partner with students, families, schools, and behavioral health providers to identify needs and coordinate appropriate support.
  • Provide case management and facilitate referrals when students need additional services.
  • Provide clinical guidance and leadership to team members, including weekly supervision and bi-weekly group supervision.
  • Help identify barriers, community needs, and opportunities to strengthen the program as it grows.
  • Represent the initiative with professionalism, credibility, warmth, and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and adolescents.
Who We're Looking For

This role is designed for a seasoned child, adolescent, or school-based clinician who is ready for greater impact and visibility.

You may be an especially strong fit if you have spent your career working directly with young people but is now looking for an opportunity that allows you to influence services at a broader level.

We're looking for someone who can walk into a meeting with school leadership and confidently represent the program—and still connect authentically with a student who needs someone to listen.

Ideal Background
  • LCSW or LPC in good standing in the State of New Jersey
  • 5+ years of experience working with youth and adolescents
  • Significant clinical leadership or team-lead experience
  • Strong background in school-based services, child/adolescent behavioral health, community mental health, or a closely related environment
  • Experience conducting assessments and providing brief, individualized clinical interventions to youth and families
  • Experience collaborating with school personnel, families, community providers, and multidisciplinary partners
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills
  • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders ranging from students and parents to school administrators and public-sector leadership
  • Ability to operate with initiative and flexibility while helping establish a brand-new program
  • Motivational Interviewing training is preferred; training can be completed following hire if needed
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license, safe driving record, and reliable insured transportation
Why This Opportunity Is Different

This is an opportunity to help build the model.

You’ll have the chance to help shape how a new initiative is introduced, understood, and embraced by schools and communities while ensuring that its clinical work remains centered on what matters most: helping students feel supported, connected, and able to stay on track academically and personally.

Your relationships with school personnel and community stakeholders will matter.

Your clinical judgment will matter.

Your voice will matter.

For an experienced LCSW or LPC who is passionate about children and adolescents and wants to take the next step from providing services to helping lead meaningful systems-level change, this is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of something with the potential for lasting statewide impact.
