Job summary

Teufel Landscape in Hillsboro, OR is seeking a Lead Climber to oversee tree care operations, mentor crew members, and uphold safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of professional tree climbing experience.
• Experience leading tree care crews.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical tree climbing using rope and saddle techniques.
• Lead pruning, removals, cabling, bracing, and risk mitigation work.
• Safely operate chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, aerial lifts, and other equipment.
• Plan and manage rigging operations for complex removals and pruning.
• Conduct jobsite hazard assessments and implement safe practices.
• Ensure compliance with ANSI Z133 safety standards and OSHA regulations.
• Train, mentor, and develop climbing arborists, grounds personnel, and apprentices.
• Communicate daily job objectives and safety expectations to crew members.
• Maintain accurate documentation of equipment inspections and jobsite incidents.
• Coordinate with clients and management to ensure work meets specifications and expectations.
• Inspect trees and identify structural defects, hazards, pests, and disease concerns.
• Maintain professional appearance and positive customer relations.

Job description

The Lead Climber is responsible for safely performing and overseeing all aspects of tree climbing, pruning, removals, rigging, and specialty tree care operations. This position serves as the field leader for the crew, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with ANSI A300 standards, ANSI Z133 safety requirements, and company policies. The Lead Climber mentors crew members, maintains a strong safety culture, and delivers high-quality arboricultural services to clients.
