Job summary

Westfield Area YMCA is seeking a Lead Cleaner/Housekeeper responsible for daily room setup/breakdowns, deliveries, laundry, floor care, and general upkeep of facilities, upholding the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

This role requires 3+ years of commercial cleaning experience, English proficiency, ability to lift at least 50 lbs, and ASHI certifications within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• ASHI BLS for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers, ASHI Basic First Aid, EPI and Asthma certifications (or equivalent) within 90 days of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial cleaning.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions in English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Report to duty as scheduled.
• Verify that all assigned cleaning responsibilities are completed thoroughly, efficiently and timely during each shift based on direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, gyms, bathrooms, floors, windows, and high touch areas.
• Use janitorial practices: mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sanitization, surface cleaning, chemical use, and floor care.
• Safely use, maintain, and store cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Safely label, use, and store chemicals per procedures and guidelines.
• Restock carts/closets, bathrooms, classrooms, and designated areas with required supplies.
• Manage trash and recycling removal policy.
• Assist with room setup and breakdown for programs, meetings, and special events; launder linens and towels and deliver them to appropriate areas.
• Perform special housekeeping projects as assigned by management.

The Lead Cleaner/Housekeeper is responsible for the daily room setup/breakdowns, deliveries, laundry, floor care, general upkeep, and cleanliness of facilities. The Facilities Cleaner/Housekeeper must demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA's four Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Report to duty as scheduled.
• Verify that all assigned cleaning responsibilities are completed thoroughly, efficiently and timely during each shift based on direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation of assigned areas, including but not limited to, classrooms, gyms, bathrooms, floors, windows, and high touch point areas.
• Use best janitorial industry practices and procedures to accomplish duties such as mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sanitization, surface cleaning, chemical use, and floor care.
• Safely use, maintain, and store cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Safely label, use, and store chemicals correctly per procedures and guidelines.
• Restock carts/closets, bathrooms, classrooms, and designated areas with required supplies as assigned.
• Manage trash and recycling removal policy.
• Assist with room setup and breakdown for programs, meetings, and special events. Properly launder linens and towels, fold and deliver towels to appropriate areas.
• Perform special housekeeping projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

• The incumbent must possess, maintain and renew ASHI Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers, ASHI Basic First Aid, EPI and Asthma certifications or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all workplace interactions.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial cleaning, demonstrating hands-on expertise in custodial operations, equipment maintenance, and chemical usage and safety procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions in English sufficient to perform assigned janitorial duties safely and effectively. Must be able to perform all phases of janitorial procedures and cleaning tasks required for the position.
• Must possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Must have a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
