Job summary

Community Action in Aroostook, Washington and Hancock Counties seeks a dedicated Teacher for its Head Start/Center-based program. The role plans and implements classroom activities, coordinates parent involvement, and supervises staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality learning and safety.

Requirements include an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, CDA or pursuing a Bachelor's, and 2+ years supervision. CPR/First Aid and Ed Tech certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience teaching young children in center-based programs/home day care
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Planning for individual needs
  • Establishing and maintaining safe, healthy learning environments
  • Conducting developmental screenings

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and implements classroom activities and field trips; writes daily plan posts in the classroom
  • Completes screenings and records observations; partners with parents to plan and implement programs
  • Plans and implements cultural awareness activities at least monthly
  • Fosters nutritious meals and snacks; purchases supplies
  • Orients parents as classroom volunteers and assists staff in parent activities
  • Coordinates and attends home visits
  • Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff; maintains performance review system; mediates conflicts; issues disciplinary action as needed
