Job description

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for a Lead Civil Engineer - Solar role supporting utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects. The selected candidate will collaborate with Ulteig's civil, structural, and electrical design teams and clients to deliver innovative design solutions that facilitate the development, design, and construction of solar projects.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and manage civil engineering design projects, ensuring effective communication with clients and internal teams.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete tasks, supporting other design workflows.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and reports aligned with sound utility-scale solar engineering practices.
  • Suggest improvements to development criteria and design features to enhance quality and outcomes.
  • Mentor and guide engineering technicians and design engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Plan and achieve project goals using your experience and judgment.
  • Review design computations for accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence on project progress and direction.
  • Review plans for constructability, safety, and risk management.
  • Maintain a value engineering mindset throughout project phases.
  • Collaborate across markets and disciplines with business and engineering staff.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and identify optimal solutions.
  • Support marketing, sales, and business development activities.
  • Demonstrate creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and ownership in design.
What We Expect from You
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Civil PE registration required; NCEES Council Record preferred.
  • 8-10+ years of civil engineering experience, with at least 5+ years in utility-scale solar design preferred.
  • Proficiency in large-scale solar grading and earthwork calculations.
  • Experience with detailed solar facility design considering topographic, environmental, and infrastructure constraints.
  • Stormwater management and permitting experience is highly desired.
  • Experience with SPCC and SWPPP plans is a plus.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.

Target Base Salary: $108,000 - $146,000. Final salary depends on skills, education, experience, location, and other factors.
