Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with demonstrated project leadership.
  • Experience serving as Lead Civil Engineer or similar technical leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and designers and provide technical direction.
  • Proficiency with civil design and documentation software.

Lead Civil Engineer
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and discipline oversight for complex engineering projects. This position will serve as the senior technical resource for the civil discipline, providing engineering direction, mentoring design staff, and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with client requirements, applicable codes, quality standards, budget, and schedule.

The Lead Civil Engineer will have significant responsibility for technical design, project execution, scope management, interdisciplinary coordination, and client support. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who can make sound technical decisions, resolve complex design challenges, and effectively guide engineers and designers from project conception through final delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Lead Civil Engineer and technical authority for assigned projects
  • Provide technical leadership, direction, and oversight to civil engineers, designers, and technical staff
  • Lead the development and review of civil engineering designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and construction documents
  • Ensure civil engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, regulations, client requirements, and industry standards
  • Establish and maintain technical quality standards for civil engineering deliverables
  • Provide engineering judgment and resolve complex technical and design issues
  • Lead civil discipline activities from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction, and project closeout
  • Manage civil discipline scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and deliverables in coordination with project leadership
  • Identify scope changes, technical risks, design impacts, and potential project issues and develop appropriate solutions
  • Coordinate civil engineering activities with structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines
  • Review and approve technical deliverables prepared by engineers and designers
  • Mentor and develop junior and senior engineering staff while providing ongoing technical guidance
  • Participate in client meetings and serve as a technical liaison between the client, project management, and engineering teams
  • Support proposals, estimates, staffing plans, workload forecasting, and project development activities
  • Assist with developing project schedules, engineering labor-hour estimates, and resource requirements
  • Conduct design reviews, technical evaluations, and quality assurance/quality control activities
  • Support construction and field activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and resolving field-related design issues
  • Maintain awareness of project financial performance and proactively communicate potential budget or schedule impacts
  • Promote engineering best practices, continuous improvement, and a strong culture of technical excellence and safety
  • Technical Leadership: Serves as the primary civil technical resource and provides authoritative engineering guidance to project teams
  • Project Ownership: Takes ownership of civil discipline scope, deliverables, schedule, budget, and technical execution
  • Design Oversight: Reviews complex engineering designs and ensures technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance
  • Team Leadership: Directs, mentors, and develops engineers and designers while effectively delegating technical assignments
  • Client Interface: Communicates directly with clients and provides technical recommendations and solutions
  • Risk Management: Identifies technical, schedule, cost, and scope risks and develops mitigation strategies
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Leads coordination between civil engineering and other project disciplines
  • Quality: Maintains high standards for engineering quality, documentation, and regulatory compliance
  • Business Development: Supports proposals, estimates, client presentations, and development of new project opportunities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, with demonstrated project leadership responsibility
  • Proven experience serving as a Lead Civil Engineer, Civil Discipline Lead, or similar technical leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, design practices, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, budgets, and technical deliverables
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to mentor engineers and designers and provide effective technical direction
  • Proficiency with applicable civil engineering design and documentation software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in consulting engineering, industrial, infrastructure, MEP, mission-critical, or other complex project environments
  • Experience working directly with clients, contractors, and project management teams
  • Experience with proposal development, estimating, and business development
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and field implementation
  • Experience leading large or technically complex projects
Travel

Occasional domestic and/or international travel may be required, including potential field assignments lasting several weeks depending on project requirements.
