Overview

Lead Civil and Drainage Engineer role at WSP in the U.S. This opportunity supports offices in Houston, Austin, or Dallas, TX with projects across Texas and Louisiana as part of the Earth & Environment Team.

Be involved in projects throughout Texas and Louisiana, including large site developments, stormwater management studies, floodplain analyses and mapping, and other civil and drainage assignments across various industries. You will develop and manage clients and opportunities, lead people, and contribute to the success of the Texas / Louisiana regional strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects as Project Manager, coordinating a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants. Serve as the project point of contact with clients, regulators, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines.
  • Support projects as Senior Civil Project Engineer or in other appropriate roles. Perform or supervise design and analysis for site, grading, utility, and drainage tasks.
  • Oversee project management aspects including schedule, budget, quality control plans, risk management, and financial performance.
  • Provide construction services as requested by the client, including construction site visits.
Business Development
  • Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits. Lead opportunity pursuits, proposal preparation, and contract negotiations.
  • Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.
  • Collaborate with local and national WSP market experts to deliver innovative, future-focused solutions.
People and Performance Leadership
  • Manage and mentor people to support growth and professional development.
  • Contribute to the management, growth, and development of the Civil and Drainage Engineering teams.
  • Meet Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the Texas / Louisiana Region.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in Texas.
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in civil and drainage engineering, with substantial experience in Texas.
  • Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles and their application to site civil and water resource projects, including analysis, design, permitting, and construction.
  • Strong experience in Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, and related software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, ArcGIS, Bluebeam).
  • Working knowledge of 2D Hydraulic Analysis (HEC-RAS 2D) and floodplain risk mapping.
  • Knowledge of construction laws, codes, regulations, permitting processes, and experience obtaining site development permits, CLOMR/LOMR approvals, and related permits.
  • Project management experience including proposals, budgets, schedules, staffing, and subconsultant management.
  • Experience with client development and management to create new opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to present to engineering and non-engineering audiences; demonstrated leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and guide junior team members with strict QA/QC adherence. Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
  • Experience coordinating subconsultants and directing field personnel to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to meet project requirements; occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Project experience in the Houston area and with the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD).
  • Project experience in the Austin area and with the City of Austin Watershed Department.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in Louisiana.
  • Project experience in Louisiana.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
