Job summary

Decatur Family YMCA is seeking a Lead Childcare Teacher in Decatur, IL. You will supervise children, develop lesson plans, and foster a positive, safe environment aligned with YMCA values.

The role requires adherence to Illinois licensing for group childcare, strong communication with families, and participation in trainings and staff meetings. Expected to model the YMCA four core values: Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.

Qualifications

• Must meet Illinois licensing regulations for group childcare.
• Ability to respond to inquiries from participants and staff.
• Ability to write reports in prescribed style and format.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the children, classroom, and program activities.
• Creates lesson plans to achieve program goals and outcomes.
• Builds a positive rapport with youth and encourages leadership.
• Maintains dialogue with parents/caregivers about child progress.
• Attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings.
• Ensures safety and quality in accordance with YMCA policies.
• Follow policies and procedures in handbooks and manuals.
• Arrives early for shifts and stays until last child leaves.
• Encourages parent involvement in programs.
