Job summary

UPMC in Pittsburgh is seeking a Lead Sterile Processing Technician for the evening shift (Monday-Friday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM). You will lead the evening operations, oversee workflow, and ensure instruments are prepared for the next day’s surgical cases.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution, and partner with the Operating Room to support patient care.

What You'll Do

As a Lead Sterile Processing Technician, you will:

• Lead evening shift operations and help oversee departmental workflow in the absence of leadership.


• Coordinate the flow of instruments through decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution.


• Serve as a trusted liaison between Sterile Processing and the Operating Room to ensure seamless support of surgical services.


• Train, mentor, and onboard new team members while promoting continuous learning and professional development.


• Assist with staffing assignments and workflow management to meet daily operational demands.


• Troubleshoot and maintain sterilization and decontamination equipment to ensure optimal performance.


• Monitor sterilization parameters and quality control processes to maintain compliance and patient safety.


• Support inventory management, instrument tracking, specialty tray maintenance, and case cart preparation.


• Collaborate on process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce instrument errors, and improve service delivery.


• Serve as a resource for staff, physicians, and internal customers by providing guidance and operational support.
