Job description

What we need

As a Lead Cell Operator, you will oversee the system maintenance and operation of automated adapters interfacing with the Symbotic system. Your responsibilities include ensuring system readiness to meet performance targets set by leadership and effectively operating equipment via Human/Machine Interface terminals.

What we do

The Lead Cell Operator is part of the Customer Operations team, responsible for managing daily operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system. This team drives operational excellence by collaborating with onsite customers to ensure top-quality, safety, and system performance.

What you’ll do
  • Ensure safety compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures daily.
  • Perform pre-production checks on automated adapters to confirm readiness.
  • Monitor and process the flow of the storage and retrieval system to maximize throughput.
  • Prepare pallets for system induction.
  • Diagnose system stoppages and restore service using HMI and manual interventions.
  • Assist troubleshooting and analyze recurring faults for corrective actions.
  • Report issues impacting production to leadership immediately.
  • Contribute to system uptime through maintenance, robot recovery, and health checks.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Conduct periodic inspections including cleaning, lubrication, and validation.
  • Report out-of-spec conditions and perform root cause analysis.
  • Maintain continuous operation of system components.
  • Use radio etiquette for communication with leadership and team members.
  • Perform upkeep of rover bots, including wheel replacement, cleaning, and sensor maintenance.
  • Assist with robotic vehicle recovery and breakdown calls.
  • Perform basic duties of Automation Technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need
  • Proficiency in system inspections: cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checking, electrical measurements.
  • Commitment to safety and reliability.

  • Ability to meet productivity expectations and prioritize tasks.
  • Analytical skills for troubleshooting stoppages.
  • Ability to work independently following procedures.
  • Multi-tasking skills and a high sense of urgency.

  • Fluency in written and verbal English.
  • Ability to climb stairs and work at heights and in restrictive environments.
  • Capability to work in varying temperatures and wear PPE as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and move up to 80 lbs occasionally.
  • Stamina to stand/walk for 10-12 hours and perform physical activities.
  • Compliance with all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and fall protection.
