GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position is responsible for driving loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, training, and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chats, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and responsibilities:

Performance
  • Contribute to achieving store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
  • Ensure exceptional guest service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending products and services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Support guest makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance the guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while meeting sales goals.
  • Maintain and organize cashwrap displays, supplies, and fixtures for guest readiness.
  • Maintain prompt attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chats and associate inspections.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to achieve individual and store goals.
  • Help train new cashiers and cross-train associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Ensure cashier accountability and follow Ulta Beauty’s systems.
  • Participate in ongoing training to develop professionally and boost sales.
  • Collaborate across departments to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Follow dress code requirements.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
  • Perform register opening and closing functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to procedures.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma preferred.

Experience: 2+ years relevant experience preferred, with skills in delegation, multitasking, problem-solving, guest service, sales, and training.

Skills: Proficiency with POS systems and Apple devices, excellent communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in teams, and strong relationship-building skills.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18+ years old.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store, including bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs.), and reaching.
