General Summary & Scope

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, loyalty), people (guest service, training, development), and process (operating procedures and compliance). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chats, requiring a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties:

Performance

• Meet or exceed store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
• Provide exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing, and recommending products/services to guests.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Support guest services like makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
• Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while meeting sales targets.
• Maintain replenishment, organization, and presentation of all cashwrap displays and supplies.
• Ensure regular attendance and punctuality.

People

• Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
• Assist leadership with cashier chats and associate inspections.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, and share knowledge with guests.
• Promote the benefits of the loyalty program and create enthusiasm around credit and loyalty goals.
• Help train new cashiers and cross-train associates.
• Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
• Drive accountability and follow Ulta Beauty’s systems and prompts.
• Participate in ongoing training for professional growth and sales improvement.
• Collaborate store-wide to grow the business.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to dress code.
• Complete transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
• Perform register opening and closing as directed.
• Maintain store cleanliness and standards across all areas.
• Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to safety and inventory procedures.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma preferred.

Experience

• 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
