GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for ensuring guest transactions are efficient and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. The LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating collaboration, leadership, and influence. This role focuses on driving loyalty results, including credit, through performance, people, and process, supporting the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chat ins/outs. A passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle is essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties and responsibilities, as well as other assigned projects:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty, and retail shrinkage.
  • Provide exceptional service by greeting, engaging, and personalizing service for each guest, including product and service recommendations.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance their experience and drive sales.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
  • Maintain the replenishment, organization, and presentation of all cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Maintain prompt attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests and team members.
  • Train new cashiers and cross-train other associates in cashiering.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve performance goals.
  • Drive cashier accountability and follow Ulta Beauty’s systems and prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professional development and sales.
  • Collaborate with store team to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
  • Perform register open/close functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards, including at the cashwrap and common areas.
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
  • Complete other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience in addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and basic technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Adaptability and good judgment under pressure.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store, including bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Continuous object manipulation during shift.
