General Summary & Scope

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for ensuring the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates, demonstrating the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence peers. This position drives loyalty results, including credit, through a focus on performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards with an emphasis on cashiering). The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with opening and closing register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chats, requiring a passion for the guest experience, process excellence, and delivering exceptional results by engaging guests in our Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Performance

  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service, and recommending products and/or services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Pair guests with associates for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support execution of services and in-store events that deliver an outstanding guest experience and meet sales goals.
  • Replenish, organize, and maintain all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest-readiness at all times.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

  • Support an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and guests.
  • Assist leadership with cashier chats and associate exit inspections as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, creating excitement and accountability for individual and store credit and loyalty goals.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve productivity and performance goals.
  • Drive cashier accountability in delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty experience, following system prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous professional development and sales performance.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff to grow the business.

Process

  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Complete all transactions properly, including returns and media control, according to company policies.
  • Perform select register open and close functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards throughout the store.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss by meeting operational standards, including safety and inventory control.
  • Perform other operational tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience addressing guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and Apple devices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Adaptability and good judgment under pressure.

Special Position Requirements

  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.

Working Conditions

  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts, including twisting and bending.
  • Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.
