GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. The position requires proactive collaboration, leadership, and influence among peers. The LC drives loyalty results, including credit, through performance (sales, guest experience, and loyalty), people (guest service, and associate training and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). They support the leadership team with register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs. The role demands a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in the Loyalty Life Cycle and contributing to goal achievement.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LC embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and responsibilities:

Performance
  • Contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
  • Provide exceptional guest service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Assist guests with makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver outstanding guest experiences and meet sales targets.
  • Maintain replenishment and organization of cashwrap displays, supplies, and fixtures.
  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance.
People
  • Create an inclusive environment supporting teammates and guests.
  • Support leadership with cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and app, to achieve store goals.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engage and influence peers to achieve high performance.
  • Ensure cashier accountability and follow Ulta’s systems and prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing training for professional development and sales growth.
  • Collaborate to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to dress code.
  • Complete all transactions accurately, including returns and media control.
  • Perform register open/close functions as directed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards, including at the cashwrap and in common areas.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards and safety protocols.
  • Perform other operational tasks as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years relevant experience or equivalent education and work experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience handling guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build customer relationships.
  • Adaptable under pressure and in ambiguous situations.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 or older to hold the Lead Cashier role.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility throughout the store, including bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Continuous object manipulation during shifts.
