General Summary & Scope

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. Experienced in cashiering, the LC assists in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position focuses on driving loyalty results, including credit, through performance, people, and process. The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with register functions, associate inspections, and cashier chat in/outs, emphasizing guest experience, process excellence, and achieving sales and loyalty goals.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The LC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through:

Performance
  • Meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty, and shrink.
  • Providing exceptional guest service, greeting, engaging, personalizing, and recommending products/services.
  • Handling sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Supporting guest makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demos.
  • Booking appointments and supporting in-store events.
  • Replenishing and maintaining cashwrap displays and supplies.
  • Maintaining consistent attendance.
People
  • Supporting an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
  • Completing cashier chat ins/outs and associate inspections.
  • Staying informed on industry trends and products.
  • Promoting the guest loyalty program and store credit/loyalty goals.
  • Training new cashiers and cross-training associates.
  • Engaging and influencing peers positively.
  • Driving cashier accountability and participating in ongoing training.
  • Collaborating to grow the business.
Process
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhering to dress code.
  • Completing transactions and controlling cash/media.
  • Executing register functions as directed.
  • Maintaining store cleanliness and standards.
  • Protecting assets and minimizing loss.
  • Executing operational tasks as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve.
  • Knowledge and passion for guest service and sales.
  • Experience handling guest concerns professionally.
  • Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.
Skills
  • Proficient with POS systems and technology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Reacting under pressure and being adaptable.
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 or older.
Working Conditions
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent physical activity including bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and reaching.
  • Engagement in store operations and safety standards.
