Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education seeks a skilled Carpenter I to perform carpentry tasks across facilities, including framing, flooring, roofing, and finishes. The role involves reading blueprints, laying out projects, installing hardware, and maintaining building components to high standards.

Four years of carpentry experience or equivalent training are required, along with the ability to lift heavy loads, operate woodworking machinery, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Four years of carpentry experience or equivalent training.
  • Knowledge of carpentry practices and safety procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools; read blueprints and sketches.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Valid driver's license; meet all job requirements at application date.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, cut, fit, reinforce and nail structural components for buildings and bridges.
  • Remove and replace flooring, ceilings, partitions or roofing as needed.
  • Read blueprints and determine materials, dimensions and costs.
  • Inspect and install hardware, window/door frames and finishes.
  • Operate wood-working machinery and construct cabinets and trim.
  • Lead and supervise carpenters and helpers as required.
  • Perform work in other building trades when not assigned to carpentry.
