Job summary

Pennings & Sons in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a Lead Carpenter to lead a framing crew and perform a range of residential construction tasks. You will work both independently and with a team to deliver high-quality results for our clients while further mastering your craft.

The role requires 2–3 years of residential framing experience (6–10 years framing preferred), valid driver's license, and ability to pass a DOT physical.

Qualifications

• Experience in residential construction and framing preferred.
• Must pass DOT physical and drug screen.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• English proficiency for safety and communication.
• Lift up to 80 lbs and work at heights.
• Team leadership and client communication.
• 2–3 years residential framing; 6–10 years framing preferred.

Pennings & Sons is looking for a Lead Carpenter to assist in our residential remodeling and building projects by managing a framing crew as well as doing a variety of construction tasks. You will have the opportunity to work independently and within team settings to produce great quality work for our clients, as you master your craft.

Job Description:

• Assist with all aspects in production of our jobs
• Read and interpret Blueprints
• Provide layout for floors, walls and roofs
• Frame floor systems both I-joists and conventional
• Frame walls out of studs, headers and LVL material
• Sheath and house wrap exterior walls
• Measure, cut Materials and install all aspects of Framing including rafters & stair stringers
• Install Truss packages
• Install roof sheathing
• Install Exterior doors and windows with proper flashing tape
• Deck framing, decking and railings

Requirements:

• Must be able to pass a DOT Physical and drug screen (REQUIRED)
• Must have a valid driver’s license (REQUIRED)
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 80lbs
• Must be willing to learn, adopt and follow company core values
• Confident enough to work at heights
• Able to understand warning signs and labels on a construction site
• The ability to interact and communicate appropriately with supervisor(s), manage the crew, subcontractors, and clients.
• Proficient in English for purposes of jobsite safety, business operations, and ability to effectively communicate regarding a job's plans, specifications, etc.
• Thorough attention to detail/ Maintain project timelines
• Maintain confidence & lead by example
• Residential Construction experience: 2-3 years (Preferred)
• Framing experience: 6-10 years (Preferred)
• Must have a strong background in Framing

Typical hours are from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Under normal conditions, the position is anticipated to be 40-45 hours per week commitment. Periodically, the job will require extra effort and time which can result in work schedule alterations.
