Job summary

Chelsea Piers Lp is hiring a Lead Carpenter to join the maintenance team at our Chelsea location. You will lead a crew of carpenters, executing new builds, renovations, and ongoing maintenance across Chelsea Piers facilities in NYC.

This role reports to the Site Operations Manager, with occasional work at other NYC sites. We seek a candidate with at least 10 years of relevant experience, a NYS driver’s license, OSHA certifications, and the ability to supervise and plan materials.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience in maintenance or construction environments.
• Valid NYS driver’s license.
• OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 certifications (or willingness to obtain).
• Certification for ladder, scissor lift, and scaffolding safety (or willingness to obtain).
• Flexible availability, including occasional holidays, weekends, and overnight work.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and facilitate extensive maintenance and project task lists.
• Oversee general maintenance of facility.
• Coordinate with Site Operations Manager for special projects daily.
• Supervise skilled carpenters and maintenance staff and schedule work to ensure timely completion.
• Maintain cleanliness of shop and proper function of equipment and tools.
• Ensure all employees wear required safety gear and work safely.
• Communicate and report incidents or problems arising in assignments.
• Plan and order materials for efficient completion of work.
• Conduct daily site inspections and prepare repair lists for Site Operations Manager.

About the Opportunity

Chelsea Piers is looking to hire a Lead Carpenter to join our talented technical maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of carpenters that perform various new builds, renovations, and maintenance tasks across the Chelsea Piers property. This role reports to the Site Operations Manager. Your primary work location will be at our flagship Chelsea location, but there may be occasional work at our other NYC facilities. This is a working lead role, not strictly supervisory.

As the skilled Lead Carpenter, you will be expected to:

• Manage and facilitate extensive maintenance and project task lists
• Oversee general maintenance of facility
• Coordinate with Site Operations Manager for special projects on a daily basis
• Supervise skilled carpenters and general maintenance employees and schedule required work to achieve timely and efficient completion of work
• Maintain cleanliness of shop and proper function of all equipment and tools.
• Ensure all employees are working in a safe and proper manner including wearing and using all required safety gear, harnesses, and eye protection
• Communicate and report any incidents or problems that arise in completing work assignments
• Plan and order materials for the efficient completion of work assignments
• Conduct daily inspections of site and prepare work repair lists, which should be submitted to Site Operations Manager

• General Hours are 7am-3pm. Nights, Weekends, and Holidays may be required
