Responsibilities

The Lead Sonographer functions as a healthcare provider, offering clinically relevant information to assist physicians with diagnosis and treatment. The role includes supervising Cardiology sonography and technician staff, overseeing professional development, mentoring students, and coordinating clinical experiences at Eastwick College.

Under the immediate direction of the Manager of Cardiology, the essential duties include:

  1. Performing electrocardiograms per procedure.
  2. Expanding examination scope based on observed abnormalities.
  3. Obtaining patient identification and clinical information, entering data into the system.
  4. Selecting appropriate transducers and settings for optimal imaging.
  5. Positioning patients to visualize cardiac structures effectively.
  6. Assisting physicians with transesophageal echocardiography and stress echo procedures.
  7. Maintaining records, sending reports, and archiving examinations.
  8. Managing and operating ultrasound equipment safely, inspecting and calibrating equipment regularly.
  9. Cleaning exam rooms and equipment between patients and daily.
  10. Following hospital attendance policies.
  11. Acting as super user for Cardiology software platforms, liaising with vendors and support teams.

The Lead Sonographer also has supervisory responsibilities, including:

  1. Providing supervision and evaluation of staff.
  2. Ensuring compliance with protocols and policies.
  3. Providing supplies and logistical support.
  4. Assisting with staff performance assessments, orientation, training, and workflow management.
  5. Supporting staff professional development and certification maintenance.
Qualifications
  • A.A.S. in Cardiac Sonography; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Minimum five years of ultrasound experience in echocardiography.
  • ARDMS, AART, or CCI certification required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Proficiency in English communication; additional languages a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
