Job summary

Northeast Cobb YMCA seeks a Lead Camp Counselor to support youth during camp, lead groups, and reinforce YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. You will supervise activities and help ensure a safe, engaging environment under the Youth Development Director.

Requires high school diploma or GED, 18+ years, current First Aid/CPR, and experience with children. This is a part‑time role offering meaningful community impact at the Northeast Cobb YMCA.

• Must pass background checks and have current First Aid/CPR certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing activities to guide, lead, educate, and engage campers.
• Assist in planning safety protocols and activities to develop campers physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
• Teach basic skills of various programs to campers in a safe, respectful manner.
• Report to Youth Development Director or Camp Site Lead on difficult situations; share issues for resolution.
• Maintain camp safety, certifications, and incident reporting; support smooth program operation.

This role is crucial for providing guidance, safety, leadership, education, and enjoyment for children served at camp.**RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited):*** Assist in the implementation of activities to provide guidance, leadership, education, and engagement for children served by camp.* Assist in planning and implementation of programs and safety protocol which will assist in the development of the camper physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually and which promote YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.* Teach the basic skills of various programs to campers in a safe and respectful manner.* Report to the Youth Development Director or Camp Site Lead about any difficult or unusual situations.* Share problems with the Youth Development Director or Camp Site Lead so they can be solved.* Facilitating proper group behavior.* Stay updated on current issues regarding camp programs.* Promote, monitor, evaluate and ensure that all camp programs run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.* Maintain branch and association certifications in *Metro Atlanta YMCA New Staff Orientation and Branch Emergency procedures, Keeping Kids Safe* and any other required certifications and/or training required by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.* Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork.**REQUIREMENTS:*** High School Diploma in progress or complete or GED* Must be at least 18 years of age* Experience working with children in a structured setting* Required certifications current First Aid/CPR; must obtain any other certifications required for the position* Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills* Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills* Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality* Pass a Bright from the Start (BFTS) fingerprint background check and a drug screen**ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:**Ability to work actively outdoors and/or indoors and/or in pool/water while supervising children.Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat or kneel.
