Role Description

The Lead CADC Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in Newark, NJ, responsible for providing direct substance use counseling services and leadership within the counseling team. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, and documenting all services in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards. The Lead CADC Counselor provides clinical guidance to counseling staff, supports case reviews, and helps ensure consistent adherence to program policies and best practices. This role collaborates closely with medical providers, social workers, and community resources to coordinate care, support recovery goals, and advocate for clients. The Lead CADC Counselor also participates in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Current New Jersey CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) credential in good standing.
• Demonstrated experience providing individual and group counseling for substance use and co-occurring behavioral health needs.
• Strong skills in client assessment, treatment planning, and documentation within outpatient or community-based settings.
• Experience in leadership or supervisory responsibilities, such as mentoring staff, supporting case consultations, or guiding clinical workflows.
• Knowledge of evidence-based counseling approaches, ethical standards, and relevant state and federal regulations (e.g., confidentiality, HIPAA).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to build trust with diverse populations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and coordinate care with external partners and community resources.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and basic office software for scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Prior experience in a clinic, community health center, or similar setting serving urban communities is highly beneficial.
