Job summary

Swagelok Texas Mid-Coast in Richwood, TX seeks a skilled SolidWorks CAD designer to develop detailed 3D layouts and assembly drawings, serving as the SolidWorks license and PDM administrator, ensuring drawing quality and design efficiency.

You will collaborate with engineers and customers to meet requirements, create library parts, generate P&IDs, and drive standardization across the design team, with a focus on accuracy and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for CAD processes, systems, standards, drawing quality, and design efficiency across the team.
• Coordinate with engineers, technical advisors, and customers to understand project requirements.
• Interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, process flow diagrams, specifications, BOMs, and GA drawings for customized packaged equipment system designs.
• Produce approval drawings with BOMs, callouts, and dimensions.
• Administer SolidWorks licensing and SolidWorks PDM system; ensure uninterrupted access and data integrity.

Job description

Position Summary

The primary focus of this position is to develop detailed layout and assembly drawings via 3D/CAD (SolidWorks) in support of Swagelok Texas Mid-Coast's Assembly Solutions department. System designs must meet customer requirements, specifications, and manufacturing constraints based on the design intent communicated by the technical sales department and/or the customer. This position also serves as the department's SolidWorks license and PDM administrator and is accountable for ensuring drawing quality and design efficiency across the team. This position does not include direct personnel management responsibilities.

Expectations

• Provide technical leadership for CAD processes, systems, standards, drawing quality, and design efficiency across the team
• Coordinate directly with engineers, technical advisors, and customers to understand project requirements
• Interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, process flow diagrams, specifications, bill of materials, and GA drawings with respect to customized packaged equipment system designs
• Produce Approval Drawings using layouts and section views with BOM's, callouts, and dimensions
• Create and modify library parts
• Generate electronic P&IDs
• Review scope documents and specifications for verification of design against the design intent and customer requirements
• Demonstrate ability to execute designs on complex projects
• Lead and conduct model reviews in accordance with department processes
• Administer SolidWorks software licensing – manage seat allocation, activations/deactivations, renewals, and vendor coordination to ensure the design team has uninterrupted, cost-effective access to required tools
• Manage the SolidWorks PDM (Product Data Management) system – own vault structure, file organization, user permissions, workflow states, and data integrity; serve as the primary point of contact for PDM issues and improvements
• Ensure drawing compliance – audit and maintain drawings, models, and documentation to confirm alignment with the Swagelok Texas Mid-Coast quality system requirements and applicable standards
• Maximize drawing efficiency – develop, document, and champion templates, design tables, standard library content, and best practices that reduce cycle time and improve consistency across the design team
• Support the desired culture and work environment of the department
• Any other responsibility as assigned by Swagelok Texas Mid-Coast

Position Requirements

Education

• Advanced education in drafting/design required
• Associate degree in a related field preferred
• SolidWorks certifications preferred

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years SolidWorks experience required
• 3 years relevant CAD designing & drafting experience with fluid systems and sheet metal
• Experience with tube routing, sheet metal, design tables/configurations & weldments
• Prior experience administering SolidWorks PDM (or comparable PDM/vault system) strongly preferred
• Experience managing software licenses/seats in an engineering or design environment preferred

Skills

• Builds and maintains effective working relationships with other designers and departments
• Creates 3D models and layouts including mating surfaces, finding correct library parts, performing extrusions, creating assemblies, exploded view diagrams with BOM's
• A self-starter and highly skilled SolidWorks designer capable of performing all design and SolidWorks modeling tasks required for delivering production-level drawings to purchasing and production departments with minimal direction or supervision from engineers and managers
• Capable of producing customized designs and layouts with basic knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints
• Advanced proficiency in using 3D modeling tools (SolidWorks required) including:
  • Part and assembly files
  • Tube routing, sheet metal, and weldment features
  • Configurations and design tables
• Advanced proficiency in using 2D drawing tools (SolidWorks required) including:
  • Drawing files
  • Blocks
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks PDM administration, including vault permissions, workflows, and data management
• Strong knowledge of process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
• Working knowledge of quality system requirements as they apply to engineering drawings and documentation
• Must be detail oriented
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Scope of Position

Physical Requirements: Office environment. This position requires keyboarding and sitting for long periods of time.
