Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Lead Cabling Technician for a contract position based in Truckee, CA. The role focuses on installing and maintaining CAT5e/CAT6 copper cabling and fiber systems, with responsibilities for coordination, documentation, and customer communication.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in lead cabling roles, proficiency with Fluke equipment, and the ability to read drawings. Travel, weekend/holiday work, and onsite installation are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Lead Cabling Technician.
• Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems and industry best practices.
• Experience with CAT5e/CAT6 and single-mode/multi-mode fiber.
• Proficiency with Fluke test equipment and cable certification processes.
• Ability to troubleshoot and read construction drawings and floor plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to travel and work out of town, including weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Meet with customers to review project scope and tasks.
• Communicate with project managers, team members, and customers via phone and email.
• Provide daily updates and document completed work.
• Create detailed as-built documentation for projects.
• Lead and coordinate with management to ensure on-time, quality outcomes.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot CAT5e/CAT6 and fiber cabling.
• Build IDF/MDF rooms and install cable management systems.
• Ensure safety and compliance with standards.
