Job Title: Lead Business Systems Analyst

What you'll do:

Western Alliance Bank is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, and experienced Business Systems Analyst Lead (BSA). The analyst will work closely with our agile technical delivery team, various business partners, and stakeholders. Plays a key role in supporting critical projects including HOA and other AAB business lines.

As the Staff IT Analyst II, you'll lead activities to review current processes and metrics supporting operational effectiveness, identify constraints or opportunities that impact the business and/or technology strategy, and develop options for improvement. You'll lead the development and review of artifacts to ensure they accurately describe current processes, practices, and metrics, and document any alternative processes with their impact on KRIs, KPIs, or Operational Metrics. Additionally, you will facilitate discussions with IT, Product, and Business subject matter experts to understand problems or opportunities, capturing insights to validate the right issues are being addressed.

  1. Interact directly with business partners to identify pain points, opportunities, and design systems solutions.
  2. Build detailed and well-groomed Agile Stories in partnership with Tech Leads from business concepts/ideas.
  3. Assess the feasibility of Agile Stories.
  4. Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior team members.
  5. Build reports from data sources leveraging Data Visualization tools.
  6. Lead business interviews to analyze and document current and future states with product owners.
  7. Manage and track business and technical objectives.
  8. Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on system processes and data structures supporting AAB business, providing training as needed.
  9. Document business, technical requirements, and processes using techniques like user stories, journey diagrams, use cases, system flow, and state diagrams.
  10. Collaborate with UI/UX designers to generate workflows and wireframes.
  11. Support data governance by providing data mapping, data store details, and lineage information.
  12. Communicate effectively on both technical and business levels.
  13. Review and update documentation for applications and systems.
  14. Leverage risk management experience from large financial institutions, especially in risk, compliance, or corporate governance.
What you'll need:
  1. 5+ years of banking experience in BA/BSA or operations roles.
  2. Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  3. Experience in requirements gathering and documentation using techniques like user stories, business process flow, use case, system flow, state diagrams, and data maps.
  4. Strong communication skills for internal and external audiences.
  5. Knowledge of Agile, ADOs, Cloud, and DevOps philosophies.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio, or Lucidchart.
  7. Understanding of IT Service Management processes.
  8. Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, influencing, and decision-making skills.
  9. Knowledge of UX artifacts like journey diagrams, mental models, personas, wireframes, and style guides.
  10. Experience in report generation, SQL, data structures, and Excel macros is highly desired.
  11. Understanding of programming or scripting languages like Python, JavaScript, Shell, etc., is a plus.
  12. Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBI is a plus.
  13. Basic knowledge of regulatory and legal compliance obligations.
  14. Intermediate skills in process and data analysis within a domain.
