Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Project Controls professional in Irvine, CA to lead cost estimation, budgeting, and EVM within our established controls framework. You will work with project leads and managers to forecast, report, and optimize financial performance.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in project controls, a related degree, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office. HDR offers an employee-owned culture and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience; an advanced degree may offset years of experience.
  • Understanding of building and status schedules, cost plans and spend plans within project controls tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, grammar, punctuation, proofreading and telephone skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office and ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project status within project controls framework.
  • Support project management Activities and coordinate with technical leads and managers.
  • Lead monthly Revenue Recognition and participate in forecasting and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with Payroll and Project Accountants to ensure compliance with prevailing wage rules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project, program, or business unit status within an established system of project controls
  • Be responsible for analysis, developing and reporting associated with various project controls job duties, such as project baseline, work package agreements, cost control, cost estimation, earned value management (EVM), projections, variance analysis, schedules, project/program/portfolio integration or technical project reviews
  • Be responsible for using knowledge and experience in project controls, support the technical project management team in project management activities
  • Serve as the centralized point of contact to internal and external business
  • Team with technical staff, project leads and managers to make recommendations to influence key decision-makers within the scope of project (work breakdown structure, schedule, and budget/cost and re‑forecasting projects)
  • Utilize information management, access controls management, program integration and communications and risk management evaluation to support project teams
  • Assist with customer interactions, including arranging and documenting periodic reviews and tracking project management deliverables and presenting project management status to external or internal customers
  • Analyze, prepare, validate and maintain cost estimates, detailed baseline budgets, work package agreements, and monthly cost variance reports
  • Utilize earned value management techniques or other management techniques to understand relationships between planned work, executed work, and actual costs
  • Work with technical leads and/or project managers to ensure that risks and opportunities are integrated with schedule and budget and that services of the proper quality are obtained when needed by the project, according to the project schedule
  • Supervise project accountants as required
  • Subcontractor financial management as needed (Sub budgets, PO’s, manage Sub payment terms per HDR policy)
  • Leader in preparation and evaluation of monthly Revenue Recognition for the business unit
  • Participate in monthly forecasting and annual planning & budgeting activities
  • Coordinate with Corporate Payroll teams and assigned Project Accountants to ensure company is in compliance with state prevailing wage requirements as applicable
  • Lead the financial review of client proposals and the contract initiation (CIF) process
  • Other duties and ad hoc reporting for the business unit as needed

  • Self‑motivated, well‑organized and detail‑oriented
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
