Job summary

Texas Leadership Public Schools in Abilene, TX, is seeking a Lead Bus Driver to mentor bus crews and oversee transportation operations. The role requires developing and presenting training modules and supporting the Transportation Supervisor in day-to-day matters.

Responsibilities

• Develop, organize, and conduct training classes in all phases of transportation operations as needed or assigned.
• Maintain school vehicles in good operating condition through preventive maintenance procedures and pre- and post-trip bus inspection.
• Demonstrate prescribed student management techniques to maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the school vehicle.
• Assist the Transportation Supervisor in investigating workplace injuries and vehicle accidents, as needed.
• Attend in-service training classes and professional development as required by the district.
• Comply with Drug and Alcohol Testing as required by Board Policy and Federal Law.

Job Title: Lead Bus Driver

Department: Operations

Reports To: Transportation Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Lead Bus Drivers must be able to competently fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of a bus driver. In addition, Lead Bus Drivers must provide positive and effective mentoring with other bus drivers. They are also expected to develop and present courses of instruction in all phases of transportation operations. Finally, assist the Transportation Supervisor operational or personnel matters as needed and in accordance with organizational policy.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must possess and maintain an excellent motor vehicle record

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Must possess a valid Texas CDL- B with P & S endorsements and outstanding driving record
• Must possess a valid Texas School Bus Driving Safety certificate
• Must have an up to date medical physical

Required Knowledge of:

• Highway and school bus regulations
• How to deal with the various needs of children
• Scheduling and record keeping system

• Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

• Work requires sitting for long periods of time
• Intense concentration is required, particularly in poor driving conditions
