Job summary

Friedman Real Estate in Cleveland is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of commercial systems to keep properties safe, efficient, and reliable. You will work with property operations, respond to tenant requests, read blueprints, and manage life-safety and elevator equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related maintenance experience and/or trade school training.
  • Working knowledge of commercial plant equipment including elevators, chillers, and boilers.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, drywall repair, and carpentry.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with testing equipment such as analog and digital multimeters, pressure and temperature monitoring devices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire/life safety, steam, elevator.
  • Inspect building systems regularly and document findings.
  • Respond to tenant service requests and work orders.
  • Coordinate with property operations team to support facility performance.
  • Assist with evacuations and life safety system alarms.
  • Safely operate hand tools and power tools.
  • Participate in safety programs and training.
  • Comply with safety regulations and building codes.
  • Work on-call after-hours emergencies as required.

Job description

The Lead Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of commercial building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable property operations. This role supports building performance by maintaining mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire/life safety, and related systems.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire/life safety, steam, elevator, and related building systems.Conduct general building repairs including fixtures, appliances, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical components.Inspect building systems regularly and document findings in operation logs, inspection reports, and maintenance records.Respond promptly and professionally to tenant service requests and work orders.Maintain professional, ethical, and courteous working relationships with tenants, contractors, vendors, and internal staff.Coordinate and work collaboratively with the property operations team to support overall facility performance.Demonstrate full competency in property emergency procedures, including assisting with evacuations and responding to life safety system alarms.Operate, monitor, and make minor adjustments to fire alarm and life safety systems as appropriate.Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment in accordance with company and safety guidelines.Participate in required training sessions, safety programs, and professional development activities.Maintain compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.Participate in the on-call schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies as required.Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.Minimum of four (4) years of related maintenance experience and/or trade school training.Working knowledge of commercial plant equipment including elevators, chillers, and boilers.Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, drywall repair, and carpentry.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.Proficiency with testing equipment such as analog and digital multimeters, pressure and temperature monitoring devices.Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.Equal Opportunity EmployerFriedman Real Estate is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
