Job summary

The City of Lewisville is seeking an experienced building inspector to enforce construction, grading, and zoning codes for residential, commercial, and industrial structures. The role provides technical support to supervisors and inspectors in specialized trades.

Responsibilities include inspecting buildings during and after construction, issuing correction notices, maintaining records, and staying current on relevant codes and ordinances. Strong knowledge of ICC standards preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; one (1) year of advanced education.
• Three (3) years of related progressive experience in the electrical field.
• Two (2) years of multiple trade (electrical) inspection experience and/or ICC certification in Building, Mechanical area preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience in municipal inspections.
• ICC certifications: Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner and Residential Building Inspector; Building, Mechanical ICC certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction to ensure building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical components meet provisions of construction, grading, zoning and safety laws, and approved plans, specifications, and standards.
• Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance; interprets legal requirements, and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, craft workers, and owners.
• Keeps inspection records and prepares reports for use by administrative and judicial authorities.
• Investigates complaints on violations; responds to complaints; provides information and answers questions as needed.
• Studies and remains current on construction codes and ordinances in effect.
