Job summary

Konik in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking a Lead Building Automation & Controls Engineer to drive multi-site automation projects, from design to commissioning, across Niagara N4 deployments.

The role requires 8+ years in building automation/HVAC, Niagara N4 proficiency, and travel up to 50%. A Bachelor’s in engineering or related field is preferred, with strong diagramming and project-management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Controls, Systems Engineering, CS, or related field preferred.
• 8+ years in building automation and HVAC within engineering or field technician roles.
• Niagara-based building automation; Niagara N4 Certification or AX with N4 proficiency.
• Proficiency creating control and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or Visio.
• Experience managing technical projects involving building automation, industrial controls, or energy systems.
• Willingness to travel 25–50% (local and out-of-state).

Responsibilities

• Lead automation and controls integration across multi-site Niagara N4 deployments.
• Manage project schedules, deliverables, and system performance milestones.
• Coordinate PLCs, sensors, SCADA, BAS/BMS platforms, and related controls tech.
• Perform startups, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Collaborate with PMs, engineering, operations, sales, and partners.
• Serve as primary automation liaison with customers, contractors, and vendors.
• Develop documentation including control sequences and system standards.

Konik is partnering with a fast-growing local startup with a focus on providing advanced sustainable heating and cooling technologies to add a Lead Building Automation & Controls Engineer to its growing team. This is a unique opportunity to join a mission-driven, scaling organization developing innovative energy systems that significantly reduce carbon emissions across commercial, industrial, and multi-family facilities.

Lead Building Automation & Controls Engineer Responsibilities

• Lead automation and controls integration activities across projects from design & programming through configuration & commissioning for multi-site, large-scale Niagara N4 deployments
• Manage project schedules, deliverables, system performance objectives, and automation-related milestones
• Coordinate integration of PLCs, sensors, SCADA systems, BAS/BMS platforms, and related controls technologies
• Perform startups & support commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting, and long-term system optimization initiatives
• Collaborate with project managers, engineering, operations, sales, and external partners to ensure successful project delivery
• Serve as the primary point of contact for automation-related communication with customers, contractors, and vendors
• Develop automation documentation, including control sequences, commissioning procedures, and system architecture standards

Lead Building Automation & Controls Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Controls, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field preferred
• 8+ years of experience in building automation & HVAC systems in engineering or field technician capacity
• Must be proficient in Niagara-based building automation systems; Niagara N4 Certification or similar (AX certification with demonstrable N4 proficiency)
• Proficiency in creating control and wiring diagrams utilizing AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, or similar tools
• Experience managing technical projects involving building automation systems, industrial controls, or energy systems
• Ability and willingness to travel 25-50%; combination of local and out of state work
